Wrexham dealt 'quite a bad' striker setback ahead of Bristol Rovers clash (1)

Wrexham are expected to be without striker Mo Faal when they host Bristol Rovers tomorrow afternoon after the 22-year-old picked up a thigh injury in training earlier this week.

Signed from West Bromwich Albion last summer, Faal has struggled for game time in North Wales, making just 17 appearances across all competitions, only eight of which have come in League One.

His last appearance came over a month ago, coming off the bench in a 2-0 defeat at Reading on March 11, and could now miss Wrexham's run-in as the Red Dragons assess whether the striker will require surgery.

"Unfortunately Mo got injured in training this week which is is a blow and it's quite a bad injury with his thigh," said Wrexham manager Phil Parkinson, as quoted by the Leader.

"That's a shame for Mo, it's frustrating for him and for us.

"We'll be assessing the seriousness of that over the next couple of days."

Even with Faal's injury, Wrexham will by no means be short of quality up top with the likes of Jay Rodriguez, Sam Smith, Steven Fletcher and Jack Marriott all featuring in some capacity last time out in a goalless draw at Wrexham.

Meanwhile Paul Mullin, who has been instrumental in the North Wales outfit's rise from the National League into League One, has experienced limited game time in this half of the season, last featuring at the back end of January.

Their clash with Rovers at the Racecourse Ground is a massive game at both ends of the league table. While the Gas are looking to climb out of the relegation zone, Wrexham will be looking to regain some ground in the battle for automatic promotion after Wycombe Wanderers slashed their advantage above third place to just one point with four games to go. Even Charlton Athletic and Stockport County in fourth and fifth place are in with an outside chance of sneaking into the final automatic promotion spot.

Promotion to the Championship would mark an incredible third in a row having only made it out of the National League in 2023. However, their West Country visitors have objectives of their own after falling into the bottom four for the first time this season on Saturday after a sixth defeat in a row at home to Exeter City.

Wrexham are unbeaten in six and have lost just twice on their own turf in League One this season, making Rovers significant outsiders for a result in North Wales.

"We've been on a good run but we've got to look at each game in its own merits and pick the team we feel is right for this game, which we always do," Parkinson added.

"Whether that's the same team or there's changes, everyone will find out an hour before kick-off."
